Well, this past month I've been reading two books but haven't completed either one! In December, I started reading For Women Only by Shaunti Feldhahn. At first I thought it was just going to be another "men need sex and respect" book but it has turned out to be much more than that. I have been learning so much about how men think and feel. She talks about things I have never thought of before, in regards to my husband. A real eye opener for sure. I am actually only about half way through (I will update again when I finish it) because in January I started reading a book that should be at the top of every Christian's reading list- The Bible!
For many, MANY years I have tried to read the Bible all the way through, cover to cover. I've tried reading it in a year, reading it book by book in random order, reading a passage from the OT and a passage from the NT every day, etc. Nothing really worked, and I am ashamed to say that I just hadn't been reading it all! I started getting convicted on how many other books I could polish off in a few weeks or even days but can't read the whole Bible. Granted, it is not as easy of a read as some other books and it requires a bit more thinking than most books I read but STILL! No more excuses! Then I saw a post on a blog I follow (coincidence? I think not) about The Bible in 90 Days program. I read the website and would love to be part of a small group doing this, but since I don't know of any churches nearby hosting it, I decided to just print off the checklist of what passages to read every day. I started it on Jan. 2 and I do have to say I am a couple days behind because it is alot to read every day. It is SO interesting though. I am learning so much I never knew or thought of because I am reading it slowly and trying to digest every verse. I have read Genesis and Exodus before but there is always more we could learn and every time I read the stories, I learn something new or something I forgot I knew! It's been great and I look forward to my nightly reading even more than I did when I was reading "regular" books. Now, I know it is not all stories and easy reading, but I am just going to take it for what it is and pray that God shows me what He wants me to know from each passage. I am going to start taking notes and writing down thoughts and questions too, to go back and study later on.
Anyway, this will be my "recommended reading" for the next few months (it will probably take me until April or so). I hope all of you consider doing this challenge. Just start from today and in 90 (or 100 or even 200) days you will have read the Bible from cover to cover and will be amazed at all that God has for us to know. I can't wait!
