For today's Musical Monday, I thought I'd highlight two of my son Zachary's favorite songs. He always requests these songs when we are in the car (when we listen to the most music, ha!) and I don't mind because I like both songs alot too! The first one, Slow Down by Third Day, convicts me every time I hear it. I know that God put it in Zach's heart to like it so that when we'd listen to it, I'd think of what it meant. So many times in my life, I get doing things that don't really matter in the grand scheme of things. I waste so much time on those things when I could and should be doing other things. It is funny that this is Zach's favorite song because I know that sometimes I get so "busy" that I am constantly telling him "just a minute" or "in a second". Yes, there are times when he needs to wait and let me finish what I am doing, but lots of times it is something that I could put down and tend to his needs. I notice too, that when I am not doing what I should be doing, when I try to do it all and all at once, I find myself asking God why I am so frustrated all the time and why time is going by so fast, yet nothing gets done. We can all use a reminder to slow down once in a while and just BE, and this song is my reminder. There's nothing wrong with letting life pass you by if you are doing what really matters.
The second song Zach likes is Mighty Good Leader by Audio Adrenaline. This song takes me back to my days of music festivals and concerts. Audio Adrenaline was one of my favorites when I was in high school and college. They are just a fun band and this song is upbeat and catchy. As you can guess, Zach's favorite part is the "yeah, uh huh, it's OK" part! (: He cracks me up when he sings this in the car, complete with hand motions (ie. the 1, 2, 3, 4 part). He loves to rock it out! Ah, my future concert groupie....following in his mommy's footsteps! LOL!
Okay, so here's the songs and lyrics! Enjoy, courtesy of Zachary!
Slow Down by Third Day
Verse 1:
Tell me to slow down if you think
That the road that I'm on is goin' nowhere
Tell me to slow down if you know
That I'm goin' too fast for my own good.
Tell me to slow down
If the way is leadin' to a dead end
Tell me to slow down turn around
Let me change the way I'm goin'.
Chorus:
Oh, I don't want to let go
Of all the things that I know
Are keepin' me away from my life.
Oh, I don't want to slow down.
No, I don't want to look around,
But I can't seem to work it out,
So help me God.
Verse 2:
Tell me to slow down if you see
That I'm runnin' too fast in the wrong race.
Tell me to slow down if you think
That I can't keep up with my own pace.
Tell me to slow down cause you know
If there's ever any question
Tell me to slow down, turn around
I'm changin' my direction.
Chorus:
Oh, I don't want to let go
Of all the things that I know
Are keepin' me away from my life.
Oh, I don't want to slow down.
No, I don't want to look around,
But I can't seem to work it out,
So help me God.
Oh tell me to slow down
Oh tell me to slow down now
Oh tell me to slow down
Chorus:
Oh, I don't want to let go
Of all the things that I know
Are keepin' me away from my life.
Oh, I don't want to slow down.
No, I don't want to look around,
But I can't seem to work it out,
Can't work it out.
Oh, I don't want to slow down.
No, I don't want to look around,
But I can't seem to work it out,
So help me God.
Tell me to slow down.
Tell me to slow down.
Tell me to slow down.
Mighty Good Leader by Audio Adrenaline
Flooded by an ocean
Of some mixed emotions
They got you down again
Pride and passion, physical attraction
Whatever thing you're in
These temptations causing you frustrations
What you need is a friend
Someone who loves you who is above you
Take away all your sin
CHORUS
Help is on the way, yeah, yeah, yeah
Help is on the way
A mighty good leader is on the way
He's the only one gonna come to save the day
It's all right, yeah, uh-huh, it's OK
'Cause a mighty good leader is on the way
Now this someone
Knows where you come from
Doesn't care where you've been
He can put back, pieces that you lack
Make you whole again
