Today we went for a ride on our new boat! It was a perfect day for being on the water. My parents came with us and it was fun to see them enjoy it too. We had a boat when I was growing up and I have fun memories of our times on the lake. I used to love sitting in the front of the boat and feel like I was practically flying (insert "Titanic" scene here) or put my hand over the edge and feel the waves. I also loved swimming in the lake. I even went tubing and skiing a time or two. That part wasn't exactly my cup of tea, mostly because I wore glasses and couldn't see a thing when I took them off to go in the water and hated the water spraying in my face (I still hate that)!
It was quite different this time being the adult/parent and taking the kids on our boat. I didn't realize the preparation it took to get the boat ready, packing towels/snacks, etc and everything else that goes into owning and enjoying a boat. It is fun to do something new, and although the boat was originally Chris' idea, it is growing on me. I really enjoyed it especially today being our second time on it as a family and I knew what to expect. The kids liked it too although they didn't want to go swimming yet. They both loved just sitting there enjoying the wind and sun on their faces. I was totally cracking up at Zachary because he just gets this look of utter glee on his face, which in a funny way, reminds me of dogs when they stick their heads out car windows. I don't know why that image stuck in my mind but I always laugh when I see dogs do that because they look so happy and free, just like Zach did. Not that I am comparing my son to a dog, but you know what I mean. LOL! Anyway, the ride was fairly smooth but of course we hit some bumps going over the wake from other boats. Chris is learning how to manuever the boat so it doesn't rock us quite so badly but at one point, a big wave came completely over the front of the boat and soaked my dad and Zach sitting there! The splash from the wave was over Zach's head! We all laughed but realized that we need to be more careful and respect the water. It is very beautiful but can be very dangerous.
Well, on our way home, we of course we had to stop at Dairy Queen which I guess is going to be the tradition now since according to the kids, "we do it everytime so we have to go!" No complaints from me! What a sweet ending to a sweet day!
Verse of the day: Matthew 8:27 "But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!"
