File Folder Games
I thought I would write about some neat file folder games I made. These are actually the first "official" file folder games I've ever made!! A while back, I bought these books that have pre-made, full color games that you cut out and glue onto a file folder or envelope. I decided to finally get some made for this coming school year. Here are the books that I got them from. They are called Basic Phonics G.A.M.E.S. from Carson Dellosa. They come in grades K-3 and have other subjects too like Basic Math and Basic Language Arts. I have a couple of the other subjects and they are great too.
I got grades 2 and 3 since they seemed to cover the topics the kids will learn or need practice with this year. Here's a picture of the two I made today (click on picture to see it close up). The left one is from the second grade book and covers short vowels a, e, and u. On the right is from the 3rd grade and it covers silent letters.
Here's the one that I made for Katelyn. I originally thought it was from a Kindergarten book I had but surprisingly, the 2nd grade book has alot of things she's learning. You match the picture (bus) to the vowel sound (/u/) it contains. On the back of each card is the answer so the kids can self check their work (hopefully, the don't peek ahead of time). (:
Here's Zach's. You match the word to the silent letter it contains. The cards in the middle have words like knot, fudge, honest, etc. I just stapled a plastic baggie to the back of the folder to store the cards in.
They were super easy to make and I think the kids will really like them. I plan on using a bunch of these for workboxes. The nice thing is they all come with directions so they can do them on their own (obviously, I'll have to read the directions to Katelyn first). They also include reproducible worksheets that go along with the game for extra practice! Anyway, just thought I'd share!

I just came over to say "Hi" after reading your comment on Our Worldwide Classroom blog. I LOVE file folder games. I spend 80% of my time printing, laminating, cutting, and velcroing. :) I've made tons of them for my kids. I have some of the Carson Dellosa's. Did you know that you can find great free file folder games online? This is my favorite place: http://www.filefolderfun.com. Another good one is:

I have lots of links to free printables on my blog if you want to come visit.
