Busy Day

Today was a very busy day. It started off with the long awaited ice cream party at the library. The kids were part of a summer reading program and had to read 600 pages to earn a free book at the party. Zachary read most of the books on his own (they could read on their own or they could be read to) and he read a total of 1,005 pages. Katelyn "read" 919 pages (the girl that read the most read over 10,000 pages!) Anyway, then they got to make their own ice cream sundaes! Yum! There was also a book fair going on at the library so we got a few books and trinkets. There was alot to do but I think the kids enjoyed it.

We came home for naps and then it was time for swimming! Our last lesson, yay! Today was "fun day" where they could free play in the water. My parents (and Luke of course) came to watch. The kids had fun splashing and doing whatever they wanted. Zachary loved the swallow end (3'6") where he could touch. Katelyn is a noodle girl and was happy just floating. At the end, they got a "report card" and a treat. I am glad the lessons are over but I think it was a good introduction to swimming and we will definitely keep practicing what they've learned.

After swimming, we all went out to dinner at Chili's. It didn't look that busy but they were backed up and slow and it took 45 minutes to get our food! The kids were pretty crazy by the time we got the food and then we all scarfed it down just to get out of there! It was not fun at all. I am so done with going out to eat. We have only been going out to eat maybe twice a month (besides fast food a few times) and lately it has not been enjoyable at all. Either the kids are crazy or the food takes forever and then like tonight, we didn't even get to finish it or enjoy it because we just wanted to leave. Not to mention that it's expensive! It is just not worth it. The more we eat at home, the more we prefer it (and that's saying alot for us since we used to go out nearly every night when the kids were younger)! The bonus is, I have actually enjoyed cooking! Who knew!

So anyway, then we came home and the kids were finally in bed at 9:00. Whew!! It was a long, busy day but fun. It was a great break from the normal routine.

Verse of the Day: Psalm 103:15-17- "As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, and His righteousness to children's children."
