This week at the Not Back to School Blog Hop, everyone is posting about their "school room" (i.e. where we do school or keep our school supplies). It can be anywhere from the kitchen table, to a dedicated "desk and chalkboard" room, to outside! Whatever is your style and works for your family!! Check out all the posts for some great inspiration!
As for us, not much has changed in our school room since last year. We still have our main meeting/workbox area in the den, but the thing that has changed is that we have been doing more schooling at the dining room and kitchen tables, as well as the living room where there is more space. If it is a lesson I need the whiteboard for, we do it in the den, but otherwise each of the kids finds a spot, and I wander back and forth between them if they need help. Since my youngest will be joining us this year, I think we will do all our "together" subjects in the family room and at the kitchen table where there is more space.
To start, here are the posts from past years' school room/storage spaces:
2010-2011
2011-2012
You will notice they look very similar but each year I make changes that help make our homeschool more productive. It's an ongoing process!
This year we are still using workboxes which we love (more about them here and here). I use one box (drawer) per subject/activity and there are 4 "independent" drawers and 4 "work with mom" drawers. The two extra bottom drawers are for storage, but I may have to use them for other subjects/activities this year. My youngest is starting K4 this year, but for now, just the two older ones will use the workboxes until I can figure out a system for him. I am still working on organizing that for the coming year, but that's another post for another day. (;
Okay, I know, it's all about the pictures, so get to it, right? Well, I don't have many "new" pics to show but here are some of the spaces we are using:
The Den and workboxes:
The dining room- I may put up some posters and things on the wall, but we do still use this as our formal dining room so I would like to keep it clean and non-cluttered. The kids bring their work in here for school, and put everything back in the den afterwards.
The kitchen table- we will use this area for art and science experiments. I have lots of plastic tablecloths. (;
The Family Room reading nook (right next to our big comfy couch).
And here are all of our supply areas- kitchen cupboards, bookshelves in the basement, wherever we can find a spot!
Hope you have a great school year! Love your kitchen table, by the way!

Oh I LOVE all your books...and how organized they all are! Beautiful space :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE your bookshelves!
ReplyDeleteIs it funny how when I looked at your shelves my brain said - "Hey, I have that book!" I love how you put your reading baskets next to the couch ~ I'm SO stealing that!
ReplyDeletePsst, I visited the library and did this tonight! Thanks so much!
DeleteI am glad it worked for you! May you have many happy hours of cozy reading. (:
DeleteLove your space!!! Especially your reading nook! Hope you have a great school year! :)
ReplyDeleteOhh, look at all those wonderful books! It looks like a great plan, especially the plastic tablecloths. :)
ReplyDeleteIt always makes me feel better to see how much school stuff other people have tucked away too because sometimes I feel like I have too much. lol LOVE the book area but how do you keep them all tidy against the wall like that? I can't imagine that in my house.
ReplyDeleteOh, the book area never stays that neat and tidy all the time!! Usually it is overflowing into the family room (and we've gone to the library alot lately so there's extra books everywhere)! My daughter is our book organizer and will clean up that area several times a week, but it still gets messy in a hurry! I need a couple more of the red bins to keep it all contained!
DeleteLooks great! loved seeing your workboxes. Have always been intrigued by this system...
ReplyDeletePopped over from Sunrise Learning Lab to see your Week 2 - School Room Tour post that you linked up with the iHomeschool Network’s Not-Back-to-School Blog Hop.
Have a wonderful homeschool year!

I like to see all of your homeschool "stuff" as well. I often wonder how much is too much, but I use most of what I have and it helps to see others have a lot too. I think you're doing well organizing it all. Best wishes for a happy school year!
ReplyDeleteLove all the books!
