I Love Scholastic Book Clubs!

Did you know that homeschoolers can participate in the Scholastic Book clubs like regular schools do? I used Scholastic clubs when I taught in a Christian school and now I have been getting books from the club for homeschooling! I can't count how many great deals and free books I've gotten! It is a great way to build your library with brand new books! Considering the savings, free books and books from bonus points, it's not much more than garage sale prices! And there is just something about getting a big box in the mail and I am a sucker for that new book smell!! LOL!

Well, the beginning of the school year is the best time to get books from Scholastic and this month, they had the best deal I have seen in a long time. There are several clubs to choose from depending on the age you are interested in. I buy from Firefly (PreK and K), Seesaw (K-1) and Lucky (gr. 2-3). There is also Arrow for gr. 4-6 and Tab for gr. 7 and up. You can get the order form through the mail or you can order online at Scholastic.com (go to the book clubs quick link) after you set up an account. I've also ordered over the phone and the customer service is great!!

Okay, so in September, all the clubs have a great deal going. When you place a $20 or more order you get an extra $10 to spend! Plus, you get 10x the bonus points (10 points for every dollar you spend). PLUS you get an extra 10 FREE books! So here's what I did...I ordered from Firefly, Seesaw and Lucky. Yes, I spent $60 (actually a little over) but look what I got...

Here's what I bought (plus 5 books not pictured because my mom bought them to keep at her house for the kids):
This is what I got with my free $30 ($10 from each club) :

Plus I had coupons (came with an order from last year) for two free books:
And these are the THIRTY free books I got (10 from each club)! I am excited because they are all different age ranges and reading levels- something for each of my kids!
From this order I earned over 600 bonus points, so I "bought" coupons for 30 more free books to get throughout the year (cost=505 BP). I also got an email for 100 bonus points and then with my order was a coupon for another 100 bonus points! 100 points would get you about a $5 book (less expensive books cost less points). You can also add points together for bigger items.

So all together, for spending a little over $60 I got 63 books, plus coupons for another 30 to "buy" throughout the year (93 books total!!). I just pick any $4 or less book from any club and use my coupons to "pay" for them! I also still have over 400 bonus points to spend on more books! I don't think I will have to spend any actual money on books for the rest of the year!

Oh! Just so you know- October issues have the same deal- an extra $10 to spend but it's just 5x the bonus points and one free book. Still a great deal since you only have to spend $20!

Anyway, just had to share my excitement and thought someone else might like to go crazy on books like me! I can never have enough books! (:

  1. Hi Leslie!
WOW! I'm excited for you on your great book deals! That is great and your book choices look fantastic! Oh how fun! I love books ever since I took a Children's Lit class in college for my elementary education certification. Our local library has a book sale twice a year and I usually can find great titles there for great prices! In fact my homeschool library is filled with books marked with 25 cents to a dollar prices!
