Recommended Reading- November

The last few months I've read some good books and I thought I'd start a series called Recommended Reading. Anna on Maidens of Worth does this and I think it is really neat. She lists the books she read the previous month with a brief description and her thoughts on it. Then she lists the books she is reading this month. So that is how I think I will do it, although I'm sure I won't be able to read as many as she does in a month (ah, I remember when I could though). Anyway, here goes....Oh! I also made a Shelfari bookshelf with my favorites on the side bar so check it out (roll over with the mouse or click on the book for more info)! (:

Completed this month:

Set-Apart Femininity by Leslie Ludy: This book is technically geared toward single women, but the message Leslie is trying to get across is practical for all women, regardless of age or marital status. It teaches us how to live our lives set apart for God and to look at His standards on how to become a Godly woman. We are to rid ourselves from anything that does not cultivate our relationship with Christ, whether it be obvious sin in our lives or the little secret things that don't seem like a big deal but that are holding us back from reaching our full potential in Him. Leslie uses personal examples as well as stories of other Godly women to show practical ways we can set apart our lives for Christ. Leslie also wrote Authentic Beauty (which I also read) and it is great too, but with more advice for young single women waiting on God for their "prince". I learned alot from that book though, especially how we should look to Jesus as our Prince and make HIM the center of our lives.

The Longing by Beverly Lewis: This is the final book in the Courtship of Nellie Fisher series (click on my shelfari for more info about the series). I have read ALL of Beverly Lewis' books and I loved this one just as much as the others. Her stories are mostly about the Amish community and are more than just Christian romance stories. The plots are suspenseful and wonderfully written and all throughout are weaved with Biblical applications. This specific series was based on the Amish church division into Old Order and New Order. The New Order faith was based on salvation and having a personal relationship with God. The story focuses on how these people broke away from the Old Order and found their peace in God, not in harsh rules and tradition. The characters are interesting and relatable. I am interested in all things Amish so Beverly Lewis' books are great for learning more about these people and their faith.

Yes, that's all I got to in October....well, unless you count Berenstain Bears with the kids. LOL!

Reading (okay, will TRY to read) in November:

Personality Plus- How to understand others by understanding yourself by Florence Littauer: At a women's retreat that I went to last weekend, this book was brought up and although I had read it many years ago, I decided to read it again and see how I "rated" now. It contains the classic "Personality Profile" where you take a quiz to determine your personality type. It also has practical ways to use that information to help you get along with others.

Lessons I learned in the Light by Jennifer Rothschild: At the women's retreat, we did a video class by Jennifer and she is wonderful! I can't wait to read this book (going to pick it up at the library tomorrow)!

Feminine Appeal- Seven virtues of a Godly wife and mother by Carolyn Mahaney- I heard alot about this book on other blogs so I thought I'd check it out.

If you get a chance, I'd love it if you'd leave a comment with the name of your favorite book (or two)! Happy Reading!!
